Tour Details

Vinicunca is an incredible natural wonder located in Peru, South America. It’s also known as the ‘Rainbow Mountain’ due to its spectacularly colorful mineral deposits that are visible from afar. The mountain stands at 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) above sea level and is home to a variety of wildlife including llamas and alpacas.

The area around Vinicunca has been used for centuries by local people who have adapted their lifestyles and culture to fit the extreme environment of the Andes mountains. Despite this long-standing presence in the region, it was only recently discovered by tourists after being revealed by receding glaciers during 2015.

Today, thousands of visitors flock to see Vinicunca every year – drawn in by its unique beauty and rugged landscape. The journey up the mountain can be quite arduous, but those who make it are rewarded with stunning views of snow-capped peaks and coloured valleys below them.

For many travelers visiting Peru, seeing Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain is a must-do experience that leaves them with lasting memories of one of nature’s most beautiful creations!

Itinerary

Full DayRainbow Mountain Vinicunca

We will start our journey at 4:30 a.m. when we come to collect you from your Cusco hotel. After that, we will board our private vehicle and drive to the town of Cusipata. Once there, we will have a light breakfast prior to beginning the short excursion to Vinicunca.

We will be traversing the Red Valley, which is renowned for its numerous reddish hills. The unique shades of the region’s mountains are a result of mineral accumulation over millions of years.

It will take us approximately two hours to reach Vinicunca. Once there, you will have plenty of time to admire the stunning scenery that this place offers. Our tour guide will also tell you about the cultural relevance of Vinicunca for locals.

Once we have spent a while at Vinicunca, we will head back to Cusipata. Upon our arrival there, you will be able to enjoy a typical Andean meal. After lunch, we will get in our private car and go back to Cusco, where we should arrive around 6:00 p.m.

I recently hiked the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, and the views were breathtaking! The altitude made it a bit challenging, but the colorful landscapes were worth every step. Definitely bring layers, as the weather changes quickly. An unforgettable experience!
