Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Km 104 - Aguas Calientes

We will commence our expedition by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4 o’clock in the morning. Subsequently, we will proceed to Ollantaytambo – a small village situated in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Once we get to Ollantaytambo, we will board a train to Km 104 station, which is the starting point of the Short Inca Trail.

Once at Km 104, we will go through a security check before heading for the Inca Trail. After trekking for some time, we will arrive at Wiñay Wayna, an old Inca site situated next to the ancient Inca Trail.

Wiñay Wayna is located at an elevation of 8,700 feet (2,650 meters). It features a combination of terraces, plazas and other structures. Historians theorize that Wiñay Wayna was both a religious and agricultural center.

We will take a brief break for lunch at a campsite close to Wiñay Wayna. Then, we will continue our trip towards Inti Punku – also known as the Sun Gate. After passing the Inti Punku, we will finally arrive at Machu Picchu.

On this day, we will not have the guided tour of Machu Picchu. Instead, we will leave the citadel and take a bus to Aguas Calientes. After you check into your accommodation there, you will have some free time to explore the town and its famous hot springs.

Day 2Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

Following our breakfast, we will leave the hotel and take a bus to Machu Picchu citadel. Once there, we will need to pass a security checkpoint before being allowed access into the historical site.

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city located in the Andes Mountains of Peru. The city was built in the 15th century and was abandoned by the Incas during the Spanish conquest. It remained unknown to the outside world until 1911, when it was rediscovered by American archaeologist Hiram Bingham. Today, Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of South America’s most iconic landmarks. Its unique history and breathtaking views make it a must-see destination for visitors from around the world.

If you have acquired tickets for either Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain, our team will guide you to the correct access points. After completing our exploration of Machu Picchu, we will return to Aguas Calientes.

Once we reach Aguas Calientes, you will have time to have lunch at a local restaurant. The cost of the lunch is not included in the tour price. Afterwards, we will take the train to Ollantaytambo and then drive back to your hotel in Cusco. We should arrive at Cusco around 10:00 pm.

Just did the Short Inca Trail, and it was amazing! The hike was challenging but not too intense, with stunning views along the way. Reaching Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate was such a rewarding moment. Perfect for anyone wanting a taste of the Inca Trail without committing to the full trek!
