Itinerary

Full DaySacred Valley of Incas & Maras Moray

We will commence our tour by collecting you from your accommodation in Cusco at 7:00 am. Our first stop will be the Taray viewpoint, from where we will be able to admire the stunning scenery of the Sacred Valley. After that, we will continue on to Pisac.

Pisac

Pisac is a popular tourist destination due to its breathtaking scenery and rich cultural heritage. It houses many ancient Inca ruins. Also, it is renowned for its Sunday market where artisans display their unique handmade items. Tourists flock to Pisac to enjoy the majestic mountain vistas, explore archaeological sites, and experience the ancient Inca culture.

The Pisac ruins date from the fifteenth century and are composed of terraces, temples, palaces and other structures created by the Incas. The ruins boast intricate stonework as well as captivating views of nearby mountains. After visiting Pisac, we will go to Urubamba town where we will have lunch.

Ollantaytambo

Then, we will make our way to the site of Ollantaytambo, where some of the most well-preserved Inca ruins are found. The archaeological site is made up of terraces, stairways and temples built by the Inca civilization. Ollantaytambo offers a rare glimpse into ancient Peruvian culture. Tourists can explore this fascinating place, which allows for breathtaking views across the valleys surrounding it.

Moray

After visiting Ollantaytambo, we will explore the remarkable Inca archaeological site of Moray, which lies close to the Maras Salt Mines. This archaeological area is made up of several terraced circles that have depths as great as 30 meters. It is probable that the terraces of Moray were employed by the Incas to imitate distinct ecological areas, allowing them to grow different kinds of crops.

Maras

Once we have explored Moray, we will visit the Salt Mines of Maras. Maras is home to thousands of ancient salt evaporation ponds. These mines have been used since pre-Inca times, and are still actively mined by local families, who each own a set of their own ponds.

The salty water from a nearby underground stream fills the ponds, and the sun evaporates it, leaving behind a layer of salt which is then collected and sold.

Chinchero

Prior to going back to Cusco, we will make a stop in Chinchero. This small town is roughly 30 kilometers away from Cusco. Chinchero is renowned for its colonial-style main square, which is enveloped by the magnificent views of the Peruvian Andes. Chinchero is also famous for its unique weaving designs and bustling local market.

After exploring Chinchero, we will return to Cusco city, where we will be arriving around 6:00 pm.

Just got back from the Sacred Valley and Maras Salt Mines—what an experience! The valley’s views were stunning, surrounded by mountains and ancient terraces. The Maras Salt Mines were super unique, with hundreds of salt pools cascading down the hillside. Totally surreal! A perfect mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. Highly recommend if you’re in Peru!
