Tour Details

The South Valley Cusco Tour is a half-day excursion that takes visitors through some of the most beautiful and historically significant sites of the Cusco region. This tour begins with a visit to Tipon, an ancient Inca agricultural terrace complex located near Cusco. The terraces are still standing after centuries of their construction.

Next, visitors will travel to Pikillacta, an archaeological site built by the Wari civilization before being taken over by the Incas. There they will explore ruins from this pre-Inca era including plazas, public buildings, and walls made from stone bricks.

The final stop on this tour is the Andahuaylillas Temple, which is known as the “Sistine Chapel of America” due to its richly decorated interior featuring frescoes. These paintings depict scenes from Jesus’ life and death, as well as religious symbols like crosses and angels painted onto its walls. Visitors can also admire its baroque architecture which features carved wooden balconies and ornate stonework.

After exploring these three sites, visitors will return back to their hotel in Cusco feeling enriched by all that they have seen during their trip around South Valley!

Itinerary

Half DaySouth Valley Cusco

We will be arriving at your accommodation in Cusco at 8:00 am to collect you. Then, we will travel in our private vehicle for approximately 40 minutes to Tipon, where you will enjoy a guided tour of this incredible archeological site. You can take in the stunning Inca agricultural terraces and the many water canals that decorate Tipon.

Once we have explored Tipon, our next stop will be Pikillacta. This pre-Inca citadel is one of the most well-preserved in Peru and dates back to the Wari civilization, prior to the emergence of the Inca Empire. The Quechua expression “Pikillacta” translates to “City of the fleas”. This old city was given this name because of its many tiny structures and chambers.

Next, we will take a trip to the captivating Andahuaylillas temple. This extraordinary church is renowned for its exquisite colonial artworks. Upon entering the temple, we will admire the wall paintings and catholic sculptures.

Finally, we will return to Cusco city, where we will be arriving around 1:00 pm.

Just got back from the South Valley of Cusco, and it was amazing! Less crowded than the Sacred Valley, but just as beautiful. Andahuaylillas had a stunning church, and Tipon’s ancient terraces were fascinating. Perfect mix of history, nature, and culture!
